Food Wars also called Shokugeki no Soma is one of the Food Anime’s that I love to watch. The recipes that Yukihira Soma makes are food that we use daily in our home kitchen. His ideas all sound good but does it taste as good as they show on the anime? In episode 1 season 1 Food Wars he created a dish that he called ”Pork Gothcha”.
”Pork Gotcha” Ingredient:
- Red Wine
- Soy Sauce
- Salt & Pepper
- Thick Sliced Bacon
In the anime, Soma started with peeled potatoes sliced them in equal pieces so that it is getting steamed equally. The recipe is very simple but time-consuming. While the potatoes are steaming you start preparing the mushroom and the onion dice them both and carmelize the onions. Once your potatoes are done steaming mix them with the caramelized onions and mushroom. Mash them together and let it cool down (salt and pepper to your taste). Once you can touch it with your hands you can start forming the shape so that you can wrap bacon around it. Preheat the oven and put your Pork Gotcha in the oven with some rosemary. Once your Pork gotcha is in the oven it is time to prepare your sauce to add soy sauce and red wine together and then a slice of butter. Salt & pepper to your taste and serve your Pork Gotcha dish.
Pork Gotcha Review
As you can see in it is very simple to recreate the dish but what the anime does not tell you is that this is time consuming and not worth the results. You are better of cooking the potatoes and do everything separate like caramelizing the onions with bacon cubes and mushroom at once. Mix everything together and you will create the same dish excluding the rosemary. It will taste even better than the ”Pork Gotcha” from Yukihira Soma. Therefore I have not listed the numbers or measurements of the ingredients needed for this recipe since I recommend you not to recreate it. The taste of the dish does not outweigh the time that it consumes.
Have you tried to make the ”Pork Gotcha”? What did you think about it?
